Stu Trembath is Retiring!

After 32 years of dedication, hard work and community involvement, Stu Trembath will retire at the end of 2024.

Here’s what he had to say about his career in audiology:

It’s funny how time flies. I have spent more than 43 years as a practicing audiologist, and the last 38 have been at Hearing Associates, P.C.  I can’t begin to count how many patients I’ve worked with over the years and how thankful I am that Gary Dockum asked me to join him in his new adventure.

We started with the two of us and one receptionist at what’s now Mercy One West Campus and traveled to two other communities in Iowa Falls and Albert Lea. Now, we have 15 employees who care for patients at 10 different locations.

Retirement will be the next phase in my life’s journey. My first job was at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, followed by a stint at Northern Trails AEA and finally with Hearing Associates, P.C. As I reflect on the last 43 years, I always remember how I got to work in patient care doing something I love.

I’ve done other things in my profession. I served as VP of Medical, Clinical and Private Practice for the Iowa Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ISHA) and President Elect, President and Past President of ISHA before becoming a board member for the ISHA foundation.

My interest in coding and billing, not to mention a debt to one of my college professors at Michigan State University, inspired me to join the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association’s (ASHA) Health Care Economics Committee. I later chaired and co-chaired that same committee for many years. I also had the honor of serving as ASHA’s AMA CPT advisor for more than 10 years.

Despite all my professional involvement, what motivated me to come to work each day was our patients. Most days were pure joy, though I must admit there were a few times when I was glad the day was over. I had the privilege of listening to wonderful stories and sharing joy and sorrow with many patients.

So, what’s in store for me? I’m going to spend time with my wife, Leigh, and my family in Bothell, Washington, and Durham, North Carolina. I also plan to read good books, hike trails, cook lots of meals and enjoy sunrises and sunsets without having to follow a schedule!

Thank you to all who’ve made my life better by allowing me to know you and care for your hearing healthcare needs. It’s been a wonderful career!
